Parents Code of Conduct

New Britain Youth Soccer League - Updated June 2, 2006

As a Parent, I recognize soccer is a game of fun for everyone involved -- players, coaches, officials, spectators, and parents. It is also a game of learning -- technical skills, strategic skills, teamwork, fairness, and sportsmanship. Soccer can teach self-respect and respect for others. It can teach that putting the team's interest above self interest benefits all. It can teach players how to accept limitation, loss, and even success. Soccer can teach mental and physical discipline and it can display the powerful outcomes possible when skill is met by opportunity. As such, I agree to abide by the following:

  1. I will do my best to make participation in soccer an positive experience for my child and his or her teammates.
  2. I will do my best to relieve the pressure of competition, not increase it.
  3. I will remember to applaud good plays by my child's team as well as those of his or her opponents.
  4. I will remember that opponents are necessary friends. I will not provoke the other teams players or their parents.
  5. I will not openly question officials calls or their honesty. The officials are symbols of fair play. I will teach my child to accept their decisions.
  6. I will accept the results of each game and encourage the players to be gracious in victory and turn defeat into victory by working towards improvement.
  7. I will teach my child to be a gracious winner and a good looser.
  8. I will learn as much as I can about the game so that I can recognize and applaud my child's development.
  9. I will get my child to practices on time and be there to take him or her home when practices are over.
  10. I will notify my child's coach in advance of a practice or game in the event that my child will be unable to attend.
  11. I will provide or arrange transportation to and from all practices and games.
  12. I will offer both my support and help to the coaches and the team whenever possible.
  13. I will not have in my possession any alcholic beverages, illegal drugs, or tobaco products.
  14. I will use appropriate and respectful language at all times.
  15. In soccer, as in life, I will treat others as I would have them treat me.
